Cuban’s Apology – Part Deux

In a prior post, I mentioned that Dallas Maverick’s owner Mark Cuban is good at apologizing because he gets a lot of practice.

I praised his most recent 400-word act of contrition on his blog and how he spread the word through his Twitter account.

Cuban provided a sincere apology to the mother of Denver Nugget’s forward Kenyon Martin. By utilizing his blog and Twitter, Cuban ensured that his message got out.

Whoops.

I made an assumption that Cuban actually called Martin and/or his mother before posting the apology.

I assumed wrong.

The online apology didn’t sit well with Martin who said:

“He’s (Cuban’s) a coward. He couldn’t face it. You all read the only apology that he’s made (on his blog). The world got to see it before the person who it was meant for got to see it. That tells you how that goes. I ain’t never known nobody apology (sic.) to somebody through other people.”

Cuban owned up to the fact that he should have contacted Martin’s mother in person and in a more timely manner. Cuban admitted that he made a mistake and vowed to keep his commitment.

After apology No. 2 was in the books, Cuban went on the offensive by lashing out at Martin for his alleged behavior, insulting language and physical gestures aimed at Mavericks family members and fans following game four.

Martin “got served” when Cuban wondered if Martin was going to take responsibility for his
Actions, rather than hiding behind “no comment.”

The saying goes, “It takes a big man to admit when he’s wrong.” In this case, the bigger (in actions not in size) man prevailed.
